My visit to Surly Brewing

First looks as you proceed to park is am I at the right spot. It looks more like a warehouse than possible brewhouse, but it's also positioned amongst other warehouses in the area. That perception changes ad you walk up to the doors to go in, from the sounds of the music from inside, and the fire pit for the smoking section you start to feel more club than warehouse. You're first met by staff asking for ID's after that you make your way past the store, and then to the "Beer Hall" this is where you can sit at the various tables to eat, or you can sit at the bar to eat and drink. So this was a Friday night at 9pm so this place was packed luckily my date, and I were able to get seating at the bar. The bar was well lit so no mistakes on what were looking at on the "Beeru" bartenders were very helpful, and attentive. The first brew I tried was Cynic Belgian Pale Ale it's described as pale-gold hued ale, fermented with a Belgian yeast strain, resulting in a beer that has notes of lemon citrus from the hops, and black pepper spice from the yeast, with a dry “tingly” finish. I found it too hoppy so I decided to move on to a different brew after that one. the next one on tap was the Sardonic Ale, it's a Saison Cynic finished with Brettanomyces Claussenii. This version adds a layer of complexity and funk to the black pepper and apricot notes of Cynic, adding floral, mildly funky, and baled straw notes with a crisp, drier finish. Everyone there seemed to be having a great time talking, laughing; music sounded good a very good environment to be in. Grading off the experience of the bar, the surroundings being I didn't order food I would give it 4/5 beer glasses Surlys Brewing 520 Malcolm Ave SE, Minneapolis, MN 55414 (763) 9999-4040 ww.surlybrewing.com
